A messaging guide is the foundational document for everything Snapmarket creates on your behalf. It captures who you are, who your audience is, and why they should care, written in language that's clear enough to guide every piece of content, every design, and every campaign we produce.
The process starts with a messaging interview. We'll sit down with the leading representative of your brand, usually the founder, owner, or head of marketing, for about an hour. The conversation covers five core questions:
Who is your ideal audience? We want to understand the specific people you're trying to reach, not just demographics but their motivations, frustrations, and decision-making patterns.
What market are you in? This establishes the landscape you operate in and the language your audience already uses.
Why would they buy? We dig into the real reasons people choose a business like yours, which may be different from what you might assume.
Where are you competing? Understanding your competitive positioning helps us differentiate your message.
How are you different? This is the core of your brand story, the thing only you can say.
Beyond the interview, we also review your existing website, any prior brand messaging guides or style guides, and other materials to fully "import" your brand into our system.
The finished messaging guide is a comprehensive document that typically includes your brand positioning, audience profiles, key messages, tone and voice guidelines, and the core language framework your marketing should use. It becomes the single source of truth for how your brand communicates.
Your messaging guide is a living reference. When you're reviewing content we've created, the guide is the standard to measure against. If something feels off-brand, pointing to a specific section of the guide is the fastest way to get us aligned.
It's also valuable internally. Many clients share their messaging guide with their own team members, sales staff, and leadership to create consistency across every touchpoint, not just the ones Snapmarket manages.
You don't need to prepare a presentation or write anything in advance. The most helpful thing you can do is think about the five questions above and come ready to talk openly about your business. If you have examples of messaging you admire, whether from competitors, adjacent industries, or entirely different fields, bring those too. The more reference points we have, the sharper your guide will be.
Brands evolve. If your market shifts, you launch a new product, or your audience changes, let us know through the support portal. We can revisit and refine your messaging guide to keep it current.
